Safeguarding
Keeping everyone safe is our priority.
Spree Wales has a dedicated Safeguarding Team working across the weekend, alongside the medical provision and Emergency Management Team.
Responsibilities
The Spree Safeguarding Team is responsible for responding to safeguarding concerns and incidents that arise during the event.
Concerns are handled in line with the applicable safeguarding policy, with the appropriate teams involved where necessary.
Group leaders remain responsible for:
supervising the children and young people in their group
responding appropriately to their needs
following the safeguarding policy
supervising their group overnight
managing medication for members of their group
Group leaders
Group leaders must be aged 18 or over.
The minimum recommended ratio is 1 adult to 8 young people, although groups should follow their own safeguarding and ratio policies where these require a stronger ratio.
Group leaders remain responsible for their group for the whole weekend; during activities, sessions, camping, and overnight.
DBS requirements
Adult group leaders must meet the applicable enhanced DBS requirements.
Group Coordinators are responsible for making sure the adults attending with their group meet the required DBS standard and that the relevant information is provided through the Spree Wales process.
Adult Volunteers and Service Crew aged 18 or over must also meet the applicable safeguarding and DBS requirements.
Before the weekend
Group Coordinators and leaders should make sure all required information has been provided before arriving at Spree Wales, including permissions, emergency contacts, medical information, and any additional needs.
Group leaders will receive further information from us before the event through the Group Leader Guide, webinars, and emails. The Group Leader Guide must be read before arrival!
